Frequently asked questions

Is EconRig really free?

Yes. EconRig is a free, non-commercial project: no price, no subscription, no ads, no paywalled features and no account.

Where does the data come from?

Directly from official, openly published sources — FRED, the Federal Reserve, the ECB, Eurostat, the Bundesbank, the Bank of England, the ONS, the Bank of Canada, Statistics Canada, the IMF, the World Bank, the FDIC, OpenAlex, Crossref and others. Each module's ⓘ button lists its sources and limitations.

Why doesn't a number match what I saw elsewhere, or why hasn't it updated?

EconRig shows data exactly as the source publishes it, on the source's schedule — for example, ECB exchange rates are set once per working day around 16:00 CET, and many statistics are monthly or quarterly. Other sites may use different series, vintages or real-time market prices.

Does EconRig work offline?

Yes. Every screen you open saves its data automatically, and offline you see the last saved copy with an orange note of its age. To prepare in one go, tap the ⬇︎ button at the top left of the home screen and choose Download for offline.

How do I delete downloaded data?

Tap ⬇︎ on the home screen. Under Saved by source, swipe left on a source to delete it, or use Delete all downloaded data. Your own datasets, saved items, custom rates and profiles are never deleted this way.

Can I use my own exchange rate?

Yes. In the Currency Converter, tap the pencil next to the rate to set your own rate for a pair, or add a custom currency under Your rates.

How do I change which modules I see?

Tap Edit on the home screen to remove or reorder modules, and + to add them. Use the profile menu to keep several setups — for example one for research and one for teaching.

How do I switch countries or markets?

Use the globe button on the home screen (and in many modules) to choose the US, Canada, the EU, an EU member state or the UK. News, papers, jobs, central banks and indicators follow your choice.

A module shows an error or no data.

Check your connection and pull down to refresh, or tap Retry. Sometimes a data provider is temporarily unavailable or changes its format — if it persists, please email which module and country you were looking at.

Can I suggest a new module?

Please do! Many of EconRig's modules started as ideas from economists. Describe the task you'd like help with and how you do it today.

What happens to my data?

It stays on your iPhone — EconRig has no accounts, no analytics and no servers of its own. Details are in the privacy policy.
